Draw the Line; Sephora Favourites eyeliners [review]

As soon as Sephora sent out the email announcing this, I knew needed it. I have always been intrigued by the Sephora Favourites collections in the past but have never picked one up. I love trying sample sized products. It is so inexpensive and they always so long. It lets you try a bunch of expensive products without the financial commitment. I picked up the Draw the Line set last week and have been loving it ever since. This favourites set comes with five sample-sized eyeliners and one full-sized Urban Decay duo eyeliner. I have a ridiculous amount of eyeliner. I also own so many eyeliners that I haven't finished one in years. But I've been eying many of these liners to try (especially the Kat Von D) so this is the perfect set for me.

Each eyeliner in this set is close to, if not more than, half the size of the original product. At Sephora this is $36 CAN and is listed at being a $96 CAN retail value. If you ask me this is an amazing deal. I find that spending over $20 on an eyeliner is steep, especially since I have such watery eyes. Almost everything smudges in my waterline. This set allows me to try out a bunch of eyeliners for a reasonable price so I can decide which ones I would like to repurchase in the future.

This set includes two sample-sized liquid eyeliners: The Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liner in Dark Brown and the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper (black). There are three sample-sized pencil eyeliners: the Marc Jacobs Highliner in Black (which I believe is a gel eyeliner formula), the Nars Larger Than Life Longwear Eyeliner in Via Vaneto (black) and Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12H Wear in Black Lace. The set also comes with full-sized duo from Urban Decay of Perversion (their blackest black) and Rockstar (a dark metallic purple). I cannot find this duo on the Sephora or the Urban Decay website so I believe it is exclusive to this set. I have wanted to try both of these liners for a while so I think this duo is fantastic!

I swatched them all and as you can see from the photo they are all pretty decent black eyeliners (as I would expect). Perversion is definitely the blackest black of the bunch. Marc Jacobs Highliner is a little blacker than the rest of the liners. I also love that this set comes with one coloured eyeliner (how many black eyeliners does one girl need?!). Rockstar is a gorgeous plummy-purple shade and it will be so perfect for fall. I have also been dying to try the Kat Von D Tattoo liner. I am in the market for a good waterproof liquid liner in a pen format but I do not want to spend a fortune and be disappointed. Hopefully this will turn out to be amazing.

Although I am intrigued by the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner in Dark Brown, I do wish this set had come with a brown pencil liner. I love how soft a brown liner can look and think it would be an added value to this set. It's interesting that they included a brown liner in liquid form and I am kind of excited to see if I can make it work. Generally when I wear a liquid liner it is because I love how dramatic it looks. I wonder if it will still look cool in brown. Although this brown is a very deep dark brown, as you can see from the image. But then I wonder if it will defeat the purpose of wearing brown instead of black.
Liners set for 10 minutes and then rubbed | Liners wiped with a baby wipe
Basically all of the eyeliners in this set claim to be waterproof, longwearing, stay all day, etc. Bottom line, they all claim to last. After I swatched all of these liners I let them set for just over 10 minutes. I figured this should be enough time to test them thoroughly. I first took my dry hand and rubbed them. The Stila liquid liner faded slightly, as did the Sephora liner. The Nars Via Vaneto faded the most from being smudged, which kind of makes sense. It is the only one that doesn't claim to last in its name. Rockstar also smudged but didn't become transparent.

I then took a baby wipe and wiped the swatches with it. At this point basically everything faded. I was shocked and amazed by the Marc Jacobs Highliner in Black. It did not budge. This is most likely because it is a gel formula. I am very impressed and cannot wait to test this more along with lash line. I have super watery eyes and everything smudges on me so it looks like this may end up being my favourite. Both liquid liners pretty much disappeared, as did most of the eyeliners. The Urban Decay eyeliner is the one that smudged the least (aside from Marc Jacobs).

I don't plan on rubbing water on my eyes so this doesn't discourage me much. All of these liners stood up to the rub test and that is what I am more likely to face. I think this set is a phenomenal deal and for anyone that is looking to dabble in some high end eyeliners, this set is for you. I can't wait to play around with this set more and see which liners stand out.
