Marcelle Waterproofing Mascara Topcoat [Review]

Mascara is one of my biggest beauty concerns. I have poker-straight lashes that couldn't hold a curl if their life depended on it. On top of that I have very watery eyes so smudging happens frequently. In the past few months I have discovered the magic of waterproof mascara. It holds my curl all day and doesn't smudge. But a lot of drugstore mascaras don't have waterproof versions, or they don't hold up to the amazing formula of their non-waterproof counterpart. Earlier this month I was sent the Marcelle Waterproofing Mascara Topcoat as well as their Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara to test out.

I had previously tried the Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara but couldn't get it to work for me because it didn't come in a waterproof version. The Marcelle Waterproofing Mascara Topcoat works just like a nail polish top coat. You apply it after you apply your mascara and it acts as a little rain coat, turning your favourite mascaras waterproof without messing around with the formula. You have to wait for your mascara to dry completely before applying this topcoat or it can affect the way the mascara looks.

The Waterproofing Topcoat is a very liquid consistency, so do not place the tube on it's side or it will leak out. It has a typical-bristled mascara wand which makes it easy to apply over the lashes. Once I apply the Xtension Plus mascara and let it dry, my eyelashes have wilted. My eyelashes just can't handle the weight of mascara. What I like to do is let the mascara dry, re-curl my lashes and then apply the waterproof top coat. It helps hold the curl and prevents smudging all day long. It does sometimes add some extra, unwanted kink into my lashes. And always be careful when curling your eyelashes with mascara on them. The last thing you want to do is pull your precious lashes out.

Waiting for my mascara to dry isn't always an option. It takes a couple extra minutes that I don't have to spare in the morning. I figured out another way to use this mascara that is easier on my lashes and doesn't create such a kinked look. I tried applying the topcoat after I curl my lashes, but before I apply mascara. Then I apply my two coat of mascara. I find that this helps the mascara and topcoat blend and works just as effectively. When I tried this I had a little bit of flaking, but I had also had a nap that day so that may have caused it. And I didn't see flaking until the end of the day. This may not be as effective but if you are looking to hold a curl, like I am, it works pretty well.

This Topcoat works wonders. It will obviously make your mascara more difficult to remove. But if you're like me and you only wear waterproof mascara, you will be used to it. My Mac Cleanse-Off Oil does the trick, no problem. This mascara has made many of my non-waterproof mascaras wearable all day long. If you are sick of trying to find a waterproof mascara that works I would definitely reccomend this topcoat to try with your favourite mascara. If you are looking to try this baby out, use the promo code BOGO on Marcelle's website when you buy any of their mascara's and you'll receive a free waterproofing top coat! Totally worth it!
